# How to read a record — Singapore companies that were amalgamated

> What the record is, what the status means, and what is left out.

## How to read these records

### What “amalgamated” means

Under the Companies Act, two or more companies can combine and continue as one. The others are removed from the
register as separate companies, and their assets, contracts and records pass to the continuing company.

### What the record does not say

The open file names the company that stopped existing, not the one that continues, and gives no date of
amalgamation. The last annual return is the nearest indication of when the company was last active on its own.

### What is not here

Names of directors or any individual. Sole proprietorships and partnerships. Companies in liquidation, struck off
or dissolved.

**Did your company absorb this one?**

The internal data of a company that employed 50 people or more (Slack or Microsoft Teams archive, documentation, project histories) may still have value after it has stopped operating.

[Check whether this company’s data qualifies →](/pro.md) We are paid by the buyer if a partnership is signed, never by the company. Whether personal data in those archives can be transferred is a legal question for whoever controls them. Not affiliated with ACRA.
